White Paper: Measuring, Understanding and Mitigating Stress with ECG Biometrics

Executive Summary

Chronic stress has been well established as one of the main causes of major health issues in the developed world.

Extensive research has demonstrated a strong link between stress and events of acute myocardial infarction, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal issues and mental health problems

It has been estimated that stress costs the US up to $300 billion annually as a result of productivity deficits and healthcare costs.

In 2019/20 there were an estimated 828,000 workers in the UK affected by work-related stress, depression or anxiety. This represents 2,440 per 100,000 workers and results in an estimated 17.9 million working days lost.

Expert Insight

The paper includes expert input from consultant cardiologist Dr Andrew Mitchell:

“We are really excited to be working with B-Secur.

“This is a really exciting field of immersive health technology.

"Not only is it providing a fascinating insight into the complex ways that our autonomic nervous system functions, but is allowing us to develop new therapeutic interventions to help patients suffering from stress.”
