HeartKey® supports ground-breaking research on real-time stress monitoring

Modern lifestyles are triggering stress at a disproportionate rate for longer periods of time than ever seen before. Unfortunately, chronic, or long-lasting stress can pose a risk to our overall health.

The HeartKey® Stress algorithm was used in a new project, which was titled “IoMT-enabled stress monitoring in a virtual reality environment and at home” and recently published in the esteemed IEEE Internet of Things Journal.

“Stress is having a significant impact on our health, with an estimated forty-three percent of all adults suffering adverse health effects from stress.[1] B-Secur is proud to support Dr. Sanchez and the University of Utah in their ground-breaking research in this area.” – Adrian Condon, CTO, B-Secur.

The publication outlines a project led by University of Utah’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor, Benjamin Sanchez Terrones, in collaboration with the Chemical Engineering and Psychology departments as well as B-Secur and Jersey General Hospital.

The project saw the development of an Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) device, liquid metal electrodes, and electrocardiogram algorithm to obtain a continuous picture of individuals’ stress in real-time.

“The partnership with B-Secur propelled our research with a clinically accurate algorithm to monitor ECG and obtain associated metrics, which is ultimately necessary to overcome the scientific barrier of just proof of concept and demonstrate potential for a real-world application.” – Benjamin Sanchez Terrones, Assistant Professor, University of Utah.

Going forward, this work provides the opportunity for future research on psychological stress and emotional regulation within daily life.
