Embedded Software Team Lead

B-Secur is looking for a talented, self driven Embedded Software Team Lead to join our expanding team.

Reporting into the R&D Director, the Embedded Software Team Lead will be working with the Embedded Software development team in the development and delivery of our products. Working closely with the Technical Specialists, the Embedded Software Team Lead will work across the business to plan and assign tasks to individual software engineers, and be responsible for ensuring the team continue to deliver the high quality expected.

As Embedded Software Team Lead, you’ll have the opportunity to work on our next generation HeartKey 2.0 product, as well as supporting the deployment of our technology to some of the biggest technology companies in the world.

The Role

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Work in an Agile team on the development of systems in B-Secur, including the HeartKey Edge and Cloud product lines
  • Support teams across the business as a technical point of contact for SW development related tasks, including consultation on and development of automated frameworks
  • Take part in the sprint refinement process, working alongside the technical specialists to ensure tasks are well understood by the team
  • Assign SW engineers to projects and tasks
  • Work with the R&D Director to review and evaluate resourcing and hiring as required
  • Own the performance management of the Embedded Software team, including 1-2-1 meetings and annual performance reviews
  • Work with the Technical Specialists on the training and onboarding of new staff
  • Support customer meetings as the Embedded SW representative, answering questions and working with the FAE team to diagnose issues

Essential Criteria


  • 3+ years in a Software engineering role
  • Experience mentoring or overseeing other engineers
  • Development of C\C++ Libraries for a range of processor architectures on a variety of operating systems. e.g. Arm Cortex M, Cortex A, x86 on Bare Metal, CMSIS RTOS, MBed, Windows, Linux, Android


  • Level 5 (e.g. HND) or above in a STEM subject


  • Working knowledge of embedded C
  • Working knowledge of DevOps platforms such as GitLab or GitHub
  • Ability to manage own workload and workload of others
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

Desirable Criteria


  • Experience in the medical device or other highly regulated industry
  • Experience with developing systems under ISO 13485 or similar
  • Experience with leading a team and reporting into senior levels of an organisation
  • Experience working with ECG SW algorithms


  • Level 6 (Bachelors) or above in a STEM subject


  • Familiarity with embedded and cloud systems
  • Working knowledge of Python, C++, or Java

The Location

The B-Secur team are based in Belfast. It may be necessary to visit other locations dependent on your role.  We have a hybrid environment and work both in the office and at home.
