Tech Nation 2017 Report Insights – Featuring B-Secur

Tech City UK’s third annual report, Tech Nation 2017 details Britain’s thriving digital economy and clusters, highlighting through in-depth analysis that the UK is the digital capital of Europe.

“We shine the spotlight on the UK’s digital tech economy. We highlight innovation in every corner of the UK, from Bristol to Edinburgh, with over 60 company case studies.”

Jumping out from the report are statistics that reveal tech investment in the UK is two times higher than that of any other European country, with digital tech turnover increasing by 22% and digital economic contribution increasing by 30% over just five years (2011-2015).

Looking at the Belfast cluster, the report finds that the region is increasingly attractive for start-ups with the highest density of fibre in Europe and great transport links among the incentives that spur on average 128 digital tech start-up births a year.

B-Secur is pleased to feature alongside AI company Sensum as an exemplary company with headquarters in Belfast.

Head of Product, Simon Rea:

“Belfast is a cyber security hub within the UK. The partnership we have developed with the Centre for Secure Information Technologies at Queen’s University has been hugely significant. We have been able to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the UK as we develop our pioneering technology.”

The UK’s digital tech sector grew 50% faster than the wider economy grew in 2015 leading to job creation, wealth generation and support for the wider economy. Talent supply remains the number one challenge and the report calls for a reform of the technical education system, improvement in youth engagement through code clubs and mentoring programmes, and further apprenticeships for digital tech careers.
